Executive Physicals: What to Expect
Last updated:
An executive physical is a comprehensive, half-day health assessment that goes far beyond a standard annual exam: advanced laboratory panels, cardiovascular and cancer screening, body composition and fitness testing, and — most importantly — an unhurried physician review that turns the results into a concrete plan. At Meyers Medical in [CITY], [ST], an executive physical is included in every membership, every year.
Executive physical vs. standard annual exam
A standard annual wellness visit lasts about 20 minutes and screens for what insurance requires. An executive physical typically takes three to four hours and is built around a different question: not "is anything obviously wrong?" but "what is the earliest detectable sign of anything that could go wrong in the next decade?"
| Standard annual exam | Executive physical | |
|---|---|---|
| Time with physician | 15–20 minutes | 2+ hours across the visit |
| Lab work | Basic panel | Advanced panels: lipids/ApoB, metabolic, inflammatory, hormonal markers |
| Cardiovascular | Blood pressure, stethoscope | ECG, risk scoring; advanced imaging referrals when indicated |
| Fitness & body composition | Height and weight | Body composition, strength and cardiorespiratory baselines |
| Output | Results letter | Written prevention & longevity plan, reviewed in person |
What the day looks like
Before your visit
You complete a detailed history — family history, sleep, stress, nutrition, prior records — and fasting labs are drawn a few days ahead, so results are on the table when you arrive rather than trickling in afterward.
The assessment (about half a day)
- Comprehensive physical examination, unhurried
- Cardiovascular screening: resting ECG and formal risk assessment
- Review of advanced lab panels, marker by marker
- Cancer screening review calibrated to your age, sex, and family history
- Body composition, fitness, vision, hearing, and cognitive baselines
- Focused conversations on sleep, stress, nutrition, and travel health
The plan
The visit ends where most physicals never begin: a written, prioritized plan. Which numbers matter and which do not, what to change this quarter, which screenings are due when, and what your trajectory looks like if nothing changes. Twelve months later, the next physical measures the plan against reality.
How to prepare
- Fast for 10–12 hours before your lab draw (water and black coffee are fine unless told otherwise).
- Bring or send prior records and any recent imaging.
- Take medications as usual unless instructed otherwise.
- Write down your questions — there is finally time to ask all of them.
What it costs
Hospital-affiliated executive health programs commonly charge thousands of dollars for a single visit. At Meyers Medical, the executive physical is included in the $[X,XXX] annual membership — along with the year of 24/7 access and same-day care that makes acting on the plan possible.
